Simple Ceremonies: A Travel Blessing Ceremony

A travel blessing ceremony with A Soul-full World Founder Ahriana Platten

School is ending and vacation season is just beginning!

Do you have a big trip planned? I know we’ll be camping in June, visiting Canada at the end of July, and going to Bali to celebrate twenty years of marriage in early September. On top of that, our youngest son will head off to Africa to serve in the Peace Corps in August.

Traveling can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. Whether you're heading out on a big adventure or traveling for work or school, it's important to take a moment to center yourself before you hit the road. A travel blessing ceremony can help center you and make the trip more spiritually balanced and meaningful.

A travel blessing ceremony is a beautiful way to set your intentions for your journey and invite divine protection and guidance along the way. Here are five steps that you can use to bless your travels:

Step 1: Create a Sacred Space.

To begin your travel blessing ceremony, find a quiet and peaceful space where you won't be disturbed. Set up any sacred objects that hold significance for you, such as crystals, candles, or photographs. You can also burn incense or sage to clear the energy in the space and invite positive vibrations. I always enjoy using a rattle or a chime to delineate sacred space.

Step 2: Invoke a Blessing.

Call upon a divine presence that feels meaningful to you. This could be a specific deity, spirit, or energy that you feel connected to. Offer gratitude for the journey of your life that has been completed thus far and ask for guidance and protection during the upcoming travels. Use the words that come naturally from your heart.

Step 3: Speak Your Intentions.

Take a moment to speak about what you’d like to have happen on the journey aloud. This could include setting an intention to be open to new experiences, to learn and grow from the journey, to meet lovely people or enjoy those who accompany you, to be safe and protected, to have all the vehicles you use (car, boat, plane, or train) function well and without issue, or any other intention that feels meaningful to you. Be sure to include health for your body, mind, and spirit.

Step 4: Bless Your Travel Items.

Hold any items that will be accompanying you on your journey, such as your luggage, passport, or travel journal, and offer a blessing for each item. You can speak your intention for the item, or simply offer a prayer for safe travels and that your items will travel easily with you, arriving where and when you need them – and that you will be protected from theft or loss.

Step 5: Close the Ceremony.

Thank the divine presence that you invoked at the beginning of the ceremony, and express gratitude for the blessings that have been offered. Close the sacred space by extinguishing any candles or incense and take a moment to ground yourself before beginning your travels. Grounding can be done by eating something or simply by letting any extra energy drain down through your feet into the earth.

By taking the time to bless your travels in this way, you set the tone for a positive and meaningful journey.

You invite divine presence to guide and protect you, and you affirm your intentions for the journey. Whether you’re traveling near or far, a travel blessing ceremony can bring peace, clarity, and a sense of purpose to your travels.

So next time you're heading out on a journey, take a moment to center yourself and perform a travel blessing ceremony. You might be surprised at how much it can enhance your travel experience.
