Mastering the Art of Word-of-Mouth Marketing

Business Of Spirituality for spiritual entrepreneurs and healers with Dr. Ahriana Platten

"Word of Mouth is the Best Advertising!”

We’ve all heard those words, and we all know that nothing is more effective than getting satisfied clients talking to their friends about you. Unfortunately, most of us just expect referrals to happen. Assuming your clients will talk about your great work is a costly mistake. Instead, give them a way to shout out your exceptional skills!

Here are several ways to encourage people to refer your spiritual business to others:

Create a Referral Program: This is the most common way to generate referrals. Offer existing clients a reward for referring new clients. Besides giving them a discount, a free session, or exclusive access to special content or events, it lets them know you want them to tell others about you. Make sure the incentives are attractive and relevant to your services.

Host Exclusive Events: Organize events that are exclusively available to your clients who bring a friend who is not already a customer. This could be a workshop, a retreat, or a special meditation session. These events need to provide value that is in line with the services you offer.

Offer a Free Initial Service Experience for “first-timers”: Encourage people to bring friends to a free trial session. Whether it’s a mini-meditation, short healing session, or 30-minute spiritual consultation, a firsthand experience can be more persuasive than any advertisement.

Leverage Social Media: Create shareable content and ask your clients to share your post with their friends. This might include inspirational quotes, instructional videos, or testimonials that showcase the impact of your work.

Develop Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with other businesses or service providers who share a similar client base but are not direct competitors. For example, you might work with a local yoga studio or holistic health center where they can refer clients to you and vice versa.

Create Stories Worth Sharing: Develop compelling narratives around your services, such as transformative client stories or unique personal insights. Tell your stories, and invite clients to share these stories as part of your community-building efforts.

Engage in Community Service: Participate in or sponsor local events that align with your business values. This increases your visibility and reputation, making people more likely to refer you to others who are looking for services that contribute positively to the community.

Implement Follow-Up Strategies: After a session, follow up with a thank you note or email asking for feedback and gently encouraging referrals if they were pleased with the service. Include easy-to-follow instructions on how they can refer someone.

Use Tools for Easy Sharing: Make it easy for your clients to share your information. This could include digital business cards, a referral link in your email signature, or a shareable booking link on your social media profile.

One thing is for sure – if you provide great services and you ask the clients who love your work to tell their friends, they are much more likely to do it than they would be if you never ask them. Be brave. Ask for referrals. Then stand back and watch your business grow!
